Fred from Illinois began giving to Sacred Heart Southern Missions nearly three decades ago. It began modestly with the occasional Mass card for a friend or loved one. Later, he joined the Auto League.

Corporal works of mercy—feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked—are important to Fred. As time went on, the letters and photos of Sacred Heart Southern Missions’ work really made an impression on him. Seeing images of the Mission providing assistance with food and basic services to struggling families in Mississippi opened his eyes. “It’ s almost like a third world country, so poor,” he said of the area we serve.

Soon, more and more of his gifts were being directed towards Sacred Heart Southern Missions. “It seems you have more needy people than money.”

After many years of support, Fred decided to name Sacred Heart Southern Missions as one of the principal charities in his will. Our important work with the poor, as well as the timely, personal contact solidified his commitment. Giving to Sacred Heart Southern Missions “gives me the biggest bang for my charitable buck,” says Fred.
